Demi’s Final Hip Related Procedure

Today is our last step in the hip dysplasia process (well minus when he removes the pins in about 2 years)!

When Demi’s right hip was fixed, the surgeon used some of her femur (large leg bone) to repair the hip. This left Demi with a slight leg length difference. We have opted to encourage her left leg to grow to match by holding her growth plate back some in the right. This is done by placing pins around the growth plate inhibiting it from expanding.

In about 2 years, her surgeon will remove the pins and all will be well! Demi will be sore for a few days but able to walk when she is ready (and you know that will likely be today knowing her).

She went back to the OR as one happy girl and we are awaiting the completion of her surgery so we can see her and take her home for the day!
